We would like all interested freedmen descendant to be aware the Muscogee Creek Nation Supreme Court will convene and hear oral argument(s) on July 26th, 2024 at the Creek Nation Court in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Starting time is 9:00 A.M. This event is in response to the outcome of the lawsuit filed on behalf of Creek Freedmen descendants Rhonda Grayson and Jeff Kennedy. The suit was filed, argued and won last year with the assistance of Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons. The tribal lawyers filed an appeal to the decision, and the answer to the appeal could be addressed on the 26th. The outcome could affect many Creek Freedmen who’ve been fighting for restoration of citizenship and benefits unjustly taken from them in the illegal re-writing of the Creek Nation Constitution in 1979. This “new” constitution has tried to effectively wipe out lives and legacies of hundreds of thousands African-Creeks, like my own grandmother, who lived the majority of their lives in Creek territory under Creek customs prior to 1979… and then after 1979 all that was white washed. My grandmother had qualified, as Creek, to receive per capita payments. It is important that all descendant Freedmen, representing all 5 tribes, support the Creek Freedmen in an all out effort to curtail this form of racism.
