In my many years as a tradesperson in the construction industry, I’ve heard more than my share of tall tales. Many times the story teller will preface the story with the line, “now this ain’t no lie” and then go forward telling his story. I was reminded of this when in last week’s Senate hearing concerning the Freedmen, the Choctaw representative started off his presentation with the declaration that this was not about race.

What follows is a report of the hearing by noted genealogist, writer and blogger Angela Walton-Raji. If all goes well, I hope to copy her submission, with her permission, here in the Tribal Squawk.
